How Long Does It Take To Reprogram Your Subconscious Mind?

Many people have come to the conclusion that they are not in control of their life. They believe it is luck, fate, or even God’s will if they are able to change their situation. One popular concept is that people can change their situation by changing their thoughts or beliefs about their problem. The thought or belief can be so much more powerful than any other technique at your disposal because you are actively working on the problem rather than waiting for something to happen to you. Let’s learn how long does it take to reprogram your subconscious mind.

Computer programmers are not the only ones who have to re-program their subconscious minds. Our subconscious minds are constantly working, compiling, and storing information; it is not enough to just delete an unwanted belief. It takes time for the brain to develop new pathways that will overwrite the old ones. You must repeat the desired behavior long after its associated memory has been erased from conscious awareness. Over one hundred repetitions of this pattern in as little 4 seconds may finally enable our mind’s processes toward attaining positive personal goals such [as] money management.

What is the subconscious mind?

The subconscious is a part of the overall mind of the individual and has particular functions.

If you read my blog, you will have noticed that we often talk about the subconscious or subconscious mind. The concept of the subconscious is present in several works and schools of thought. Freud talks about it, as do many of my favorite authors and books.

However, the most complete and, in my opinion, truthful explanation of the subconscious seems to have been given by Serge Kahili King, in his book Mastering the Hidden Self.

In this book, King discusses the Hawaiian Huna culture, which gives an incredible (and accurate) explanation of how our mind and bodywork according to the ancient Huna.

The subconscious controls a large part of the functions of our body and some mental processes. For this reason, there must be a strong collaboration between the conscious and subconscious minds.

A definition of the subconscious

The analogy that made me better understand the essence of the subconscious mind is the association of the subconscious with a child.

The subconscious must be treated as if it were a child and trained by the conscious mind to collaborate in the development of the person as a whole.

This is one of the main tasks of the conscious mind, and that is to be a teacher for the subconscious, which guides it in the best possible way towards supporting the growth of the individual.

The meaning of subconscious

Our subconscious (also called “lower self”) is that part of our mind capable of organizing the information we receive, creating mental patterns, establishing actions (such as our habits), learn and memorize.

The subconscious, as also explained in this article, is always and continually looking for our happiness, is driven by feeling, and will always ask us how we feel when we are doing something.

However, while driven by feeling, our subconscious appears to be entirely driven by logic: just like a computer, the subconscious draws conclusions based on experiences we have had before.

The subconscious is not irrational (although to some and in some cases it may seem so, and later we will see why), nor unpredictable; everything it does follows a restrictive logic, just like a computer, and always relies on lived experiences to decide what to do. The problem is that we are often not aware of the premises that the subconscious has when deciding what to do. Furthermore, the subconscious works in a deductive way; that is, it takes experience and transforms it into a general principle. This mostly happens when our conscious mind is unable to rationalize what has happened and lets the subconscious remember without being rationally influenced.

Let’s take some examples:

As a child, at sea, an unpleasant event happens to you, and you are about to drown. At that moment the conscious mind is not able to rationalize at best, for one reason or another (fear, etc.) So the subconscious will memorize this event for how he lived it, that is, you went overboard, and you were to drown. So the sea is dangerous.

Develop a phobia towards the sea when you grow up, and it scares you, and you can’t swim. The reason will be precisely this: the subconscious has internalized the dangerousness of the sea and therefore deduces from this premise all your subsequent actions.

The primary function of the subconscious: memory

Memory is the only function of the subconscious; all the others derive directly or indirectly from this.

When we decide to remember something, we are soliciting our subconscious and requesting its cooperation. Our subconscious communicates continuously with the conscious mind. Unfortunately, however, in modern society, we do not give enough weight and importance to this type of communication. Therefore many of us are not able to make the most of the opportunities and possibilities that the subconscious offers us.

Some of how the subconscious speaks to us are dreams, intuitions, imagination, feelings, physical sensations and slips.

Subconscious and Freud

Freud also often spoke of the subconscious. Freud called it “Es” or “Id”. Animalistic part of our mind. Freud’s id is driven by impulses, instinct and passion, and contains unresolved conflicts of our proven in the Huna culture, the subconscious is the part of the mind where there are unresolved conflicts from our past, and for them too it follows instinct (in the sense that it channels all our emotions and sensations).

For the Huna, however, as opposed to Freud, the superconscious must not be controlled but educated. Also, for the Huna, it is not difficult to educate our subconscious if we know-how.

The subconscious works in our favour and the only things that matter to it are our survival, our growth and our happiness. When the subconscious behaves differently than we would like and has adverse effects, it is because its thinking is the result of beliefs and habits learned during our Life, sometimes in a wrong way or no longer functional.

On the contrary that for Freud (who thinks that the id is fundamentally “bad”) for the Huna the superconscious is good. It always acts for our good, and the negative attitudes that arise from the subconscious are due to unreasonable beliefs, patterns or associations of ideas in our past experiences.

We are not always able to rationalize what happens to us (think of the example of the child who is about to drown in the sea). In these cases, erroneous beliefs are created within the subconscious that we will carry forward over time.

These beliefs will then be used in the future, when similar situations occur, and which will lead us to actions that will follow these patterns, even if they were wrong from the start (for example the fear of swimming).

Furthermore, these beliefs often lead us to have a sense of guilt when we behave contrary to what our subconscious has internalized and thinks to be the best behaviour in that particular situation.

According to Freud and psychoanalysis, it is sufficient to bring these complexes to light, to the attention of the conscious mind, so that they disappear and allow us to return to normality.

For the Huna, on the other hand, it is not enough to bring the complexes to light for them to disappear, but it is necessary that the mind then plays an active part in the resolution of the unsolved complexes.

It is necessary that the bad habits that our subconscious has, be replaced by other good habits, and that the subconscious is taught the most significant advantage we would have if we changed the old pattern for the new one.

Furthermore, as already mentioned, feelings of guilt are often what allows the activation of wrong attitudes by the subconscious.

In these cases, penance and forgiveness are formidable weapons that allow us to nullify the sense of guilt, and therefore make it easier to change an old wrong habit. Physical stimuli strongly influence the subconscious, so fasting, almsgiving and other forms of penance in which there is a physical stimulus are excellent means to eliminate the sense of guilt.

Furthermore, in the Huna culture, for example, the only sin conceived is sinning against another being. So the only one who can forgive this sin is the same being who suffered it. When this is not possible, to eliminate the sense of guilt that one has in having sinned against this other being, it can be eliminated by forgiving oneself, for example with the techniques of penance seen above.

Being like a child, if as a child, we are told that sex is sin; our subconscious will assimilate this information and take it as real, as we could not rationalize this information as children. So sex will seem a sin even in adulthood, until the conscious mind can explain this information, objectively look at the memory of this childhood teaching, and rationalize it according to the most recent knowledge acquired over time.

Functions and nature of the subconscious

We have, therefore said that the subconscious is part of the individual’s mind as a whole. Furthermore, the subconscious must not be considered as a separate entity, but as a unique part of our being, with which we must collaborate and understand how it works if we want to derive the most significant benefits from it and enjoy our Life to the fullest.

Let’s see them in detail in the following paragraphs.


As already mentioned, the primary function of the subconscious, from which many others derive, is memory. It is thanks to remembering that we can learn, and to remember things so well that we no longer need to think while they are done (think of riding a bicycle or driving a car contrary to what one might think, memory does not reside in the brain but is duplicated in several parts of our body. From Wikipedia:

The mnestic process is therefore configured as a dynamic path of reconstruction and connection of representations, rather than as a simple “storage” of data in a static mental space.

To better understand we can take the example of the computer: computer memory is stored in magnetic disks. The data is stored in bits. Many bits together form one byte. Many bytes together form words, and the terms together constitute groups of words.

For example, if I meet a person in a club one evening, all the characteristics of this person will be stored in bits. The person as a whole will be remembered in one byte.

The behaviour of this person, his conversations with me etc. will be other bytes. So much so that the person will be remembered by me forming a word. The whole party, on the other hand, would be recognized as a set of words.

Important information will be stored where it is easier for me to extract and collect it; the rest will be held in general files.

When I need to remember a detail of that evening, my subconscious will first look for the most accessible information to retrieve, and then go and check the available files.

For the subconscious to extract information, it is necessary that the word initially received conscious attention.

The ease of retrieving this information is given by the importance that I give to each of the stored data, and the time I have dedicated to you for their memory. The subconscious thinks in logical associations, and the more associations I have between the various impressions, the easier it will be for the subconscious to extrapolate information when required.

This is why it often happens that you do not remember the names: they were not given enough importance initially when they appeared, and for this reason, it will be more difficult for the subconscious to extrapolate this information.

The fact that, if you think about it, then the information comes to the mind, is because the subconscious took longer to find and extract it. Tension and anxiety can distort the process of memory and the subconscious in removing information, and therefore not allow us to remember something.

For example, this is what happens to a student during an oral exam, when even knowing something he does not remember it. Being in an agitated state,it will undoubtedly be more difficult for him to retain the information previously learned.

The next paragraph is on the influence that the subconscious has on the body.

The body

The subconscious is directly involved in controlling most of our body’s functions.

Therefore, using the attention of the conscious mind to influence the subconscious control over our body can have surprising effects on the use of the body. However, these effects can be positive or negative, depending on the influence that the conscious mind has on the subconscious.

As has already been shown by science, our body is influenced by the way we think and feel, by our feelings and by how we “feel” mentally. Even the actions that we consciously perform need the collaboration of the subconscious mind, so if there is a close proactive and constructive collaboration between the subconscious and the conscious mind, we can make our body perform even very complex and challenging functions and activities.

Great athletes are an example of how the collaboration between the subconscious and the conscious mind can give excellent results, and allow you to perform actions that seem impossible.

Conscious, Unconscious and Subconscious

We will discuss the differences between the conscious, unconscious and subconscious minds, whose concepts are often misrepresented and confused. Our three-part mind seems to be the most accepted theory today. Being grateful allows us to immediately get in touch with our unconscious mind, which is susceptible to anything that causes an emotion within us. And the feeling of gratitude is one of the most intense that we can experience simply by concentrating on the present moment and on all that Life has given us so far.

The unconscious mind guides your Life and everything you rationally think you do, in reality, it has been silently suggested to you by that part of you that seems not to be there, that part of you that listens to everything and responds to everything.

The automatic emotional responses that often surface in us in certain situations are information recorded on an unconscious level. When the unconscious mind realizes that it is living a problem it already knows, it offers you the emotional/rational response that it previously considered most suitable for that moment.

Works to access the internet? While browsing the web, the browser records data, preferences, so that when you return to scan, it will be easier for it to guarantee you the most suitable solutions for the type of search you usually carry out. Here, the unconscious mind works the same way. It records and proposes the most suitable solutions for you, and does all this to safeguard you and guarantee you the best possible experience. But often this information is incorrect, harmful, outdated and no longer in keeping with the moment we are living. What do you say, maybe you should update the system now and then, or not? Or if you prefer, if you like psychoquantism, perhaps it’s time to change the model and recondition the thought !?

If twenty years ago you were embarrassed in front of the girl you liked, now it would make no sense to feel that embarrassment again. But the Unconscious, having not received any other information about it during the time that has elapsed, will almost certainly offer you the same logical/emotional product if you ever meet it again. Defusing this automatism is possible by self-suggesting yourself with new thoughts/emotions about the event, obviously before you happen to meet her again.

The unconscious mind is always attentive, susceptible to everything that happens, continuously records your life experience and records it with greater intensity when what you live or think is enveloped by emotions. The stronger the feeling you feel, the more critical (and will have priority) for your unconscious mind, the information it will record.

 Which we cross the threshold of the two worlds that belong to us: when we wake up and when we fall asleep. In these two moments, our life experience and our perception of reality changes. We leave one world to enter another. These two worlds have been chasing each other since we were born, and since we were born, we do nothing but go in and out. And if during the day the rational mind allows us to move in the physical reality that presents itself to us, during the night, during the phase of a deep sleep, it is the unconscious mind that takes the reins of our dream life. The rational mind is silent and observes the spectacle that the Unconscious has to offer it. We allow ourselves the luxury of living without logical/rational interference, that is when we contemplate the wonder of Life in the absence of judgment or when we allow ourselves the pleasure of flowing with what we are experiencing.

Subconscious But it is only moments before crossing the threshold of the two worlds that magic can happen. Miracles are sown here. Have you ever fallen asleep with the thought of something to solve and the next day you found yourself with the solution in your head, as it appeared out of nowhere, like a bolt from the blue? Your every request is an order that is always taken care of and fulfilled. You can call it God, unconscious, Soul, power of the mind, call it whatever you like, but this feature sets you apart from other SOULS on this planet. You are in the act of creating yourself in every moment, and those five minutes before bed are of fundamental importance to shape the reality you want to go and experience.



We are paying attention to those last moments before bed can improve your Life. The day is drawing to a close, and the rational mind is inviting the subconscious to take full control of all your faculties. During this moment of transition, we can consciously suggest to the unconscious mind what to work on, what aspect of our Life we ​​need help.

Most people, unaware of their power, spend these last five minutes of the day keeping track of the past hours. Or worse still, they highlight to themselves all those negative aspects of what happened during the day, mull over the possible offenses suffered, generate grudges, recall and relive fears and worries about what happened and what could happen.

They are telling their Unconscious to manage all these concerns without taking advantage of the opportunity to make it work on what they would like to see manifest in their Life. It’s like owning a castle with a hundred rooms and sticking to living in the stable. It’s like being a millionaire and continuing to buy things we don’t need. How do we hope that within us there is the strength to achieve what we want if we never think about it?

Our subconscious has to get in touch with what we want, not what we don’t want. If you keep thinking about what you don’t wish to (before bed), you’ll find yourself having what you don’t want. It’s a snake biting its tail. So try to reverse this mental modus operandi, try to pay attention to everything you want to achieve in life. Identify yourself with yourself of tomorrow who made it. What will you feel? Who will be with you? Who will rejoice in your success besides you?

Enjoy now the benefits that the realization of your dream will bring you. The Unconscious does not care what is real and what is not. He works to offer you the best solution to complete the project you are showing him, just as if he were your employee. Tell him what to do and he, with extreme precision, will do it.

However, just as many animals developed wings to fly or ways to breathe in water, human development was primarily intellectual, since thanks to our intellect, we don’t need to build our body as much as our mind.

For example, we never needed better skin, as we invented clothes and built places to live, away from inclement weather.

However, many examples show us that, for this reason, we are a weak species compared to others that have evolved until now, but we count on a reasonably powerful shield, which is our mind.

This mind is divided into three parts, as we will see, and these are:




Each of these has equal importance in our behavior and activity, day after day. The fact that the three minds are taken into consideration can explain human desires and actions in their maximum expression.

Conscious Mind

The conscious mind is the best known of all. It is that in which we directly develop intelligence and through which we acquire knowledge. We could also call the conscious mind logical or rational sense. It is the one that allows us to make the right decisions in particular situations or instants, taking care of the conditions and the analysis that can be carried out on them.

 How to do the things we are going to do. It is with it that we pay attention to detail and with which we carry out our actions.

We use our conscious mind, for example, to decide whether to cross the street, based on observing the intensity of traffic at a given time.

The conscious mind many times makes use of memories and stored memories, so it tends to develop and improve its skills over time. But the most curious thing is that while the more one consciously grows a gift, the more it becomes subconscious until it becomes unconscious.

The neuronal pathways that make up the conscious mind usually are healthy and are programmed, not only by our ancestors through genetics, but also by our childhood, through our learning.

We can therefore say, ultimately, that it is perhaps the conscious mind that we perceive as the most active at all times and with which we forge our past, our present and our future.

Subconscious Mind

The subconscious mind for its part is the emotional mind.

It is the one that allows itself to be reached by tastes, desires and the heart. We subconsciously create strong neuronal bonds to certain things or people.

For example, you are planning to change the location of the garbage can, from the kitchen to the veranda. It will undoubtedly take one or more days to remember the new site. This is because the neuronal connection has to subconsciously fortify itself towards the new place, while we will have to consciously reason to find where to throw the garbage. A clear example of the fact that the more one consciously realizes and improves an action, the more it becomes subconscious until it sometimes becomes unconscious.

But this doesn’t just happen with daily actions. It also happens with our feelings. When we get used to being with someone, sharing good times and emotions, our subconscious mind is strengthening in the neuronal connections towards that someone, and subsequently, it can lead to the rise of love and affection.

This is why it is so hard for a mother to lose a child, because the connection is rock solid, which begins to be created from conception. Our subconscious mind is in charge of forcing us to carry out actions that we sometimes consider irrational. For example, when we feel the urge to buy useless things or to feel sad or angry. It takes charge of our feelings since it is the mind that forgets nothing. Through the subconscious mind, you have access to all the memories that the brain has stored.

If you want to remember everything you have ever done in your Life consciously, it is very likely an incredibly complex thing. But the things that were believed to have been forgotten can be remembered if one has access to this sub mind Such as when we talk to an old friend about past experiences.

These conversations in themselves create hooks to our memories stored in the brain and extract them each time through our subconscious mind. It is thanks to it that we can remember such abstract things as feelings (for example, how we feel in a particular place, or with certain people) and even smells.

Usually, sellers try to persuade us to buy their product, trying to communicate with our subconscious mind to create the need or the desire to buy.

When a vendor tries to sell his product directly through its features and price, what he is doing is communicating immediately with the conscious mind. And this is why, on some occasions, we buy products at a higher cost, because we perceive a more significant benefit, so both products achieve the same result. It all depends on internal communication.

Not only can most people communicate with our subconscious mind, but we can too, although the process is somewhat tricky. Our subconscious way of thinking, which can be very useful when we want to align our thoughts, feelings and actions.

Unconscious Mind

Finally, our unconscious mind, the most primitive of all.

It is the one that stores all those experiences lived by our species in its millions of years of existence. She is the one in charge of dealing with physiological issues such as breathing, to cite the most striking example. You can easily consciously control your breathing, increase it, decrease it or hold it back at any time. But when you don’t, being busy with so many other matters, the unconscious mind takes over and allows our survival.

When you are sleeping, for example, you don’t think about breathing, because the conscious mind is simply doped. She is living in the trance that the other two reasons have imposed on her, intending to offer rest to the body and – as has recently been discovered – consolidating long-term memories (the proper function of sleeping).

The unconscious mind, for example, is what makes us close our eyelids when we feel a potential danger that is rapidly approaching. Or the one that makes you raise your arm to protect yourself to avoid a blow to the face. Ultimately it is a reactive mind whose actions come from millions, billions of years of experience.

We unconsciously accomplish all kinds of things that today could be considered obsolete, compared to the development that the human species has had.

It is also the mind that allows us to make ourselves feel pleasure or pain. It is she who is in charge of centering us in our comfort zone and moving us away from the sorrows of life.

Trying to communicate with this mind, to the point of changing its form of dominating our actions, is the most challenging exercise ever since its functions are genetically determined, in a powerful way, and following millions of years of learning. And errors.

Non-conscious minds have the following functions:

Management of involuntary actions and thoughts

Guarding the emotions, which manifest themselves involuntarily

Protecting the unconscious memory

Guarding unconscious beliefs

Management of creativity and dream activity

Storing instincts and impulses

Intuition management

Subconscious and Unconscious are responsible for reflex actions; they are the seat of personality and emotions. They communicate messages, signals and emotions through body and behavior. The unconscious activity can be visualized on a conscious level with the memory of dreams, full of messages, hidden meanings, desires, and repressed emotions.

The function of regulating vital functions is of such precision and efficacy that it determines the execution of precise fixed-term positions and it is for this reason that a person, who is informed that he still has six months to live, will die at the end, of the six months. The communication of such a dramatic thing has crossed the entire psychic structure to hit and mark the unconscious mind.

The two non-conscious minds have a much larger dimension than the conscious one and therefore have greater power in determining the person’s Life. Deliberate attempts to modify the non-conscious ecosystem are mostly doomed to fail.

Freud compared the mind to an iceberg, in which the part emerging from the water is the conscious mind, while the submerged part, which is much larger and hidden, represents the Unconscious, as illustrated in the figure below.

Bernardino Del Boca, anthropologist and writer, in attempting to represent the connection between man, his mind and the forces at stake, he a man as a carriage pulled by horses. In this image, the body is the carriage, the horses are the emotions, the mind is the coachman, and the passenger is the conscious self.

The passenger decides the destination, chooses the route, plans the stages and finally travels. It is, therefore, necessary that the passenger decides to where he wants to go, must plan the trip and must remain aware of what he is experiencing (awareness and observation of himself).

It follows that the mind must be able to tame and direct emotions, paying attention to the landscape and therefore, must be awake and aware.

The person himself is at the same time the coachman, the passenger, the horses, the carriage.

As a coachman, he must know and be able to handle the horses (align conscious desires with the strength of the unconscious mind) and must work hard to get the horses to do what they have to. You need control and will on horses.

As horses, you show the strength and elegance of your being. Only the government can prevent horses from going where they flee in the face of unconscious fears.

The person must, first of all, be able to become aware of being a whole. This all cannot be in harmony if the horses want to go one way, the passenger from another and the coachman from another. The carriage – the body – will be torn apart by opposing and destructive forces. Only by achieving a communion of purpose and action within oneself will one achieve harmony and restoration of one’s life journey.

How Powerful Is The Subconscious Mind?

I think it depends on how much power you give in to yourself, in other words, self-responsibility or lack of awareness and understanding about this issue does depend more so than anything else if someone has an unhealthy relationship with themselves emotionally due to their own conditioning(s) they have lived under before being born onto Planet Earth. If a person lives off food/drug addiction that’s all there will ever truly exist within them as to create change because everything revolves around those things until then when we came here…then began our journey towards becoming human beings. It is these conditions that are the root cause for what exists now!

We can’t blame people from birth unless one looks at where he comes out after exiting his mother’s body only looking through blinders! And yes, God in His purest form would never allow us or any other living organism to do anything like this but it appears He doesn’t always involve himself and look how much suffering happens on planet earth by humans who refuse to choose wisely if you want results….

Are Dreams Connected to Your Subconscious?

If we are talking true REM sleep or rapid eye movement then yes very closely if not directly as our thoughts while dreaming still pass through the thalamus into the motor cortex allowing us no doubt influence over whatever activities were happening during dream time. However, most people do experience mind-altering lucid nightmares which is pretty rare but also the basis for many movies like “Inception”. In a similar vein I believe that drug-induced altered states via psychedelics (which don’t actually alter consciousness) may allow users greater insight onto their own internal mental processes of thought process though it doesn’t necessarily mean they will become smarter nor does this state carry with itself any wisdom from deep analysis or understanding, just more clarity and awareness – in other words, its an “awareness expansion” rather than true knowledge acquisition

As mentioned earlier we have all had past life memories within our dreams when sleeping on certain nights too as well as having out-of-body experiences at some point while awake – are either dreaming then “dream walking”, experiencing the world through a different perspective/perspective change/experience. Our brain is not entirely rational because there’s always that part that feels like instinctual survival responses to keep us alive whilst making decisions for what might be better overall (it may feel really right), but one must remember these instincts can only take place based upon previous stimuli experienced by your senses such sense perception.

Is it possible to reprogram your subconscious mind?

Yes! But only with practice does anyone learn anything through repetition or habit formation

(i)Repeatedly focusing on something can, over short periods and at specific times during life lead you into certain patterns that store in your brain by means other than memorization.

(ii)The process called ‘executive functioning,’ allows us to control cognitive function – like how we remember memories.

So, the key is firstly UNDERSTANDING all of these things we are talking about & once it ‘clicks’ for YOU…. it will begin clicking/making sense with everyone else around us!
